Obituary for Joan Karp

Joan Gluckman Karp of Hamburg died peacefully at the age of 92 on March 30, 2018.

Joan is survived by her children Catherine Karp (Robert Bayly) of Petersburg, NY, Norton Karp (Dilek) of Belleville, NJ, granddaughters Irene Bayly (Rensselaer, NY) and Nora Bayly (Houston, TX), sister Betty Weinberg (Louis) of Short Hills, NJ, other relatives and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Norton Karp and companion John Lydon.

Joan was born in 1925 in Newark, NJ to Charles and Anna Lang Gluckman. She received degrees from Ohio University and William Paterson University. She married Norton Karp in 1952, moved to Sussex and was a technical editor for Bell Labs in Whippany, taught at the Hardyston Elementary School and was the office manager for her husband's dental practice.

She was a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Newton and active there for 54 years. She was a volunteer for many causes for decades, including People Help and was a member of the Great Books Book Group. She loved planning and giving parties for friends and family, travel, reading, theater and fighting the good fight.
