Mary Etta Smith Johnson made her celestial transition Monday, October 15, 2018

Born in Varnville, SC November 27, 1926 to the late Sidney and Luella DeVine Smith.

The family moved to Neptune, NJ when Mary Etta was very young. She attended the public schools of. Neptune. She was a graduate of Neptune High School and the College of St. Elizabeth.

She met and married William Andrew Johnson on February 18, 1957. They lived in Neptune, NJ before moving to Morris Township, NJ in 1961.

Mrs. Johnson was retired in 1992 as a Management Information Analyst from Bell Communications Research (Bellcore).

She was a member of Bethel AME Church, Morristown. Sis. Johnson served as the Church Secretary for Pastors A.Lewis Williams, Harvey Sparkman and Louis P. Attles, Treasurer of the Board of Trustees for nine years, member of the Greater Bethel Choir, President of the United Sixteen Club, Letsie Clemons Missionary Society, member of Executive Board of Community Soup Kitchen and Treasurer for the Lafayette 4H Club. She also served as a mentor for Literacy Volunteers of America, Telephone Pioneers of America, an avid contract bridge player and former Eastern Star.

Survivors include her two daughters and one son-in-law: Vivian M.J. And William Darkes of Atlantic City, NJ, Felice D.J. Anderson of Morris Township,  NJ; her sister Addie L.S. Davis of Asbury Park, NJ; two granddaughters, Crystal D. Charley and Karen N. Darkes and one great granddaughter, Heaven Sanaa Sibley. She leaves to mourn her loss grand nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
